Why DYOR is Non-Negotiable
Doing your own research isn’t optional in crypto — it’s survival. With thousands of tokens launched weekly, the space is filled with both opportunity and danger. Projects might promise the moon, but many end up being empty coops. Research is how you separate the golden eggs from the rotten ones.
Researching the Token Itself
Start with the basics: the token’s name, contract address, and website. Always copy the contract address from the project’s official page or a trusted aggregator like CoinGecko or DexScreener. Paste it into Solscan or a token explorer to confirm its creation date, creator wallet, and holders.
Reading the Contract
Click “View Contract” and look for red flags: mint functions (unlimited supply risks), hidden taxes (max wallet fees), or the ability to pause trading. If you don’t know what you’re looking at, use contract scanners or reach out to someone who does.
Using Clukbot for Research
Our Telegram-based ClukBot can help you DYOR with tools to:
- Check the domain registration of a token’s website
- Scan the developer’s wallet for previous project history
- See how long liquidity is locked and whether it’s renounced
- Summarize activity across Twitter and Telegram
Just enter the contract address or domain into Clukbot, and it’ll do the dirty work for you.
Community & Team Doxing
Is the team doxxed or anonymous? Are the mods helpful or just posting gifs? A strong project usually has active communication, transparent team bios, and a community that asks smart questions. Avoid coops where every message is “wen moon” or just stickers.
On-Chain Behavior
Look at the token holders. If one wallet owns 80% of supply, that’s not decentralization — that’s domination. Are the dev wallets dumping or holding? Are there bot wallets doing weird high-frequency trades? Solscan and other explorers show these patterns clearly.
Audit Reality Check
Audits are only useful if done by reputable firms. Anyone can slap a fake audit badge on a website. Look for the actual PDF report and read the conclusion section. Bonus points if the audit includes remediation proof from the devs.
How Long Has It Been Around?
If the token launched 2 hours ago and already has a shill army, slow down. Most rugs happen within the first 48 hours. Age matters. Reputation is earned. Check creation dates on-chain and in social media profiles.
Website & Whitepaper Tests
Does the website look like it was made on a potato? Does the whitepaper say “we are aiming to build a platform for the future of decentralized community token finance ecosystem stuff” — with no actual details? Be suspicious. Real projects explain their use case, tokenomics, and plans clearly.
Trust Your Instincts
If it smells weird, it’s probably rotten. Ask Clukbot. Ask friends. Ask in a few groups. Wait if you’re unsure. Research doesn’t prevent risk, but it does prevent most avoidable disasters.
Bottom line: The smartest chickens don’t just scratch — they investigate. And they don’t get cooked.
